SUCCESS STORIES

I began seeing Mark as my therapist primarily for a drug and alcohol addiction nearly three years ago.  I have had the experience of sitting with many therapists along the way, none of which I felt the connection that I did once I walked into Mark’s office.  I knew that I was a safe and for the first time had hope.

Mark’s knowledge of Alcoholics Anonymous, the Big Book, and the 12 Steps of recovery as well as his compassion and honesty helped me build a foundation for my recovery.  He gave me the courage and the hope I desperately needed to make changes in my life so that I can live a happy and fulfilled life of recovery.

I value Mark’s honesty, openness and willingness to encourage me each step of the way.  He has been active in helping to educate my family on the disease of alcohol and drug addiction. – L. F.

I was in dire need of alcohol counseling and family health assistance during 2010.  With the professional direction and  flexible alcohol abuse program I received from Mark Dunay of Harbor Counseling  I have found freedom in an alcohol-free lifestyle.  I would recommend Harbor Counseling to anyone with a real desire to change their lifestyle in any area of addiction, or just a personal need for assistance to quit drinking. – M.S.

I have been a client of Mark Dunay’s for about four years.  I started seeing him for one particular reason and over the years he has helped me with many different obstacles I have faced in my life.  Mark offers great insight with honesty and respect.  Mark always seems to tell it as he sees it and I admire this quality.  Mark listens when it is needed but also speaks with great enthusiasm when he feels that is necessary.  Mark has not only helped me with some situations in my life, he has helped my husband and son.

My family is going through a difficult time with my mother who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.  It is such a difficult disease and as a parent I was lost as to how to teach my 11 year old son to deal with it.  I referred to Mark and he suggested that he could see him.  I was not sure at first, but I trust Mark completely and know he has great experience dealing with children and difficult topics.  So I took my son and after a short visit things got so much better for him.  He came away with an understanding of the disease and now is able to handle it much better.  As you can tell Mark has truly been someone who I trust and respect.  I value his opinion and appreciate his time. – A.C., school psychologist

I am writing this letter to tell how making an appointment almost 20 years ago has impacted my family over the years.  I made the appointment with Mark Dunay while going through a very difficult divorce and the impact that it had on my little son.  With Mark’s counseling and support, my son was able to come to terms with the situation much better than if I had tried to deal with it on my own.  I subsequently also dealt with my son getting diagnosed with ADHD, and Mark helped with strategies that would help him be more successful for this both at school and at home.  We continued to check in periodically with him on these and other issues in our lives.  I later remarried and had another son and my husband adopted my older son. Mark helped with all of these issues on a continuing basis for a smoother transition.  He has become a family friend and has been a cheerleader on the front lines for all of our successes as well as a rock of support through the tough times such as when my husband passed away  at a younger age this winter.  He has continued to help us with our grief, being there not only for me but for my two sons, who are now 22 and 15.  My younger son has known Mark for all of his life and has truly benefited from his guidance through these emotional times, helping him to make good decisions in his life especially since the loss of his father.  The boys especially appreciated Mark showing up with pizzas and soft drinks during those last couple of days during my husband’s illness in the hospital.  Mark did this so that he could check in with all of us, including my husband, to make sure that we were all o.k. emotionally and to let us know that he was there for all of us should we need him.  He has been there over the years every time that we have needed him, and even when we just wanted his advice to keep us on the path that we were on or to set us on a different one.  It is amazing how that one phone call for that appointment so long ago has truly made a huge difference in our lives, and for that I would like to thank you Mark from the bottom of all of our hearts.  – D.W.

Harbor Counseling was contracted to see if they could help a family going through a divorce with a child with social issues.   Mark accepted this challenge and has helped my children understand and accept that they are special and loved, regardless of the family situation.  He remains neutral to the parental conflicts which arise and helps this family stay focused on moving forward in life. – Paul M.

I was referred to Harbor Counseling just about two years ago.  I was going through a nasty divorce at the time and was having trouble with my son adjusting to the situation.  Mark gave me the tools to help provide a stable life for my son and myself.  I am thankful that I was led to Mark two years ago.  He continues to help me with many life challenges on a real level.  I’m thankful for Mark being a major support in my life.  Mark has worked with my son as well, in a one-on-one situation, which has really helped him develop and grow into the great kid he is.  I myself am very pleased with the progress my son and I have made with Mark’s help, it has impacted our life more than words can express. – Aaron D.

Unfortunately life is full of decisions.  After many bad decisions I was forced by my employer to seek help.  Living in Plymouth and reluctant to listen, I chose Harbor Counseling Associates, near my house.  Still stubborn about accepting help, there was a therapist I became attached to: Mark Dunay.  Mark has helped me to recognize and own my faults and learn from mistakes.  Even though no longer mandated to continue in therapy I find myself still in contact with Harbor Counseling to accept guidance and help from counselor Mark Dunay. Thanks for always being there through tough times. – R.C.

First, let me start by saying Thank You! Mark, you have provided me with the tools to cope with my combat-related issues.  I’m a Combat Veteran and I’ve certainly had my challenges integrating back into society.  For many of us, it is difficult to shift gears and realize the behaviors that we’ve learned while in combat don’t work back here in civilian life. I have suffered with anger and guilt issues for many years, and I can honestly say that Mark has helped me immeasurably by providing me with the tools and insight to look at things in a different perspective.  I would recommend his services to any American Hero returning home.  – Sgt C. MacDonald, 101st Airborne Div, 2/327th Infantry

Mark has listened intently to what I have had to say. When my life was going in a complete circle with no end in sight, he guided me in the right direction.

He had told me during a counseling session “Someday you will be on the other side of this problem.”  I doubted that statement over and over each and every day.

With Mark’s help and years of experience I have come to realize it wasn’t his statement that I was doubting all that time.  It was myself I was doubting.

Thank you for believing in me and giving me the confidence to put my doubts into action. – S. D.
